Page layout years
[edit]There is a discussion on my talk page on page layout.
For most of the last three hundred years there is inconsistency and duplication between the year in topic paragraph, the "see also" box and what is on the year by topic pages. Prior to 1950 I am pretty convinced we can painlessly (except for sore fingers) delete all of the year in topic paragraphs and ensure that the material goes into a "see also" box, creating such a box where none exists. Post 1950, particularly from the "year in US television" link a lot of material has been added to this paragraph as highlights (sometimes making up most of the page content pointed at).
Personally I think we should still delete the paragraph, keep the box linking to the topic sites and move any particularly important parts of the year in topic paragraph to the main chronological list. This does involve undoing quite a bit of work which someone has done.
Therefore, unlike for prior to 1950 (where I've said no objection= I do it) for post 1950 I won't touch these pages unless a significant number of people agree with the change. (I am also unlikely to get the pre 1950 stuff done before summer unless the service speed improves dramatically). talk--BozMo 13:47, 7 May 2004 (UTC)
Recent reverts...
[edit]Infrogmation (talk · contribs)'s recently reverted two edits by Mike Garcia (talk · contribs). Both of these edits by Mike seemed reasonable...adding Bill & Ted's to movies and Animated Beast to Games. I'd like to see consensus developed here. Both of the linked articles reference 1988, and regrettably, due to my age, seem reasonable. :) Wikibofh 04:12, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Infrogmation's revert was justified. IMDB says Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was released in the states on February 1989. [1] In addition, Altered Beast is a 1989 game according to GameFAQs [2] and GameSpy [3]. --Krystyn Dominik 04:27, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I forgot Altered Beast is a Japanese game and yes it was released in 1988 over there. However this is an English version of Wikipedia, the predominately English speaking countries didn't have that game until after 1989. In addition, Altered Beast is not that notable entry to included. It has to be somewhat "groundbreaking" like 1990 with "Super Mario Bros. 3 is released on the Nintendo Entertainment System console and sold over 6 million copies worldwide. It is known as the best selling video game in history." --Krystyn Dominik 04:35, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- It seems like there is some discussion on the B&T page about the actual date. I think the preponderance of evidence is probably 89, but I can see how 1988 might be reasonable. As for Altered_Beast it's article says '88, which is why I thought it was appropriate. I'll grant you it isn't that notable, but I remembered it, and I can't say how many of the video games from that time actually stuck with me...probably way too many. Regardless, I'll go with consensus. Wikibofh 15:06, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Births
[edit]Is there a limit on the number of people who can be listed under "births"? I just listed the entire category. User:Carie 21:15, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- I tried to set a precedent a while back, and people complained. So list every single person who was born in that year if you wish, but this might finally persuade people that I might have had a point when the article becomes dominated by births. Personally, I think it should be restricted to internationally famous individuals (household names, in other words, with the rule "if you have to ask, they're not notable enough") if not globally then at least over a continent Average Earthman 15:19, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
