Alain or Al-Ain

[edit]

You should probably make up your mind, whether it's "Alain" or "Al-Ain". -- John Owens 23:13 Apr 17, 2003 (UTC)

Its both, John. Arabic names can be transliterated in different ways. WhisperToMe 04:27, 17 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Move

[edit]

I have just moved Alain to Al Ain and removed the double reference at the beginning. I have been living here six months and have never seen the former usage in print. Marskell

Spring or eye?

[edit]

If they're homonyms and there's some controversy, explain the controversy. Otherwise, pick one. I believe the government itself claims it means "spring". 69.140.17.250 06:04, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Ain probably has more than five meanings in Arabic, but the city name refers to the spring (water source). ~MK 16:24, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

I have moved this back to Al Ain. The kilometres-to-go signs from Abu Dhabi use this, the newspapers use this, the "Weclome to Al Ain" sign says this, the U.A.E government website states this. It is represented in English as Al Ain, not Al-Ain or Alain. Marskell 00:47, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alain means Spring.. because its an oasis —The preceding unsigned comment was added by LexMan (talkcontribs).

Emirati only policy

[edit]

I'm surprised at the claim that there are places that maintain Emiratis only policy. I've been in Al Ain for more than a year and I haven't heard of that. Admittedly, I still don't know the city very well, but it sounds quite at odds with what I know of it. Could you please elaborate on this and mention your sources? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.69.1.22 (talk) 17:22, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been living in Al Ain for the last 2 decades and have never heard of such thing.mizzo (talk) 10:13, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Garden of the Persian Gulf?

[edit]

Someone has changed Al Ain is recognized as the Garden of the Gulf... to ... The garden of the Persian Gulf... I think this is technically not correct due to the existence of numerous gardens and forests in Persia/Iran. The gulf in the first one refers to the region known as the Arabian Peninsula which lacks gardens and have very few naturally existing oasis, and Al Ain is one of them. How should this be fixed without getting into the controversy of the name the 'persian gulf'? Note that in Arabic the transliteration is Garden of the Gulf. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ayoom (talkcontribs) 10:25, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Ain Wikipedia page: Al-Ain Zoo

[edit]

Al-Ain's Wikipedia page contains all the essential information concerning the city itself as well as its history. However, the Wikipedia page does not concentrate on many popular sites located in the city of Al-Ain; some information regarding a small number of these popular locations are briefly stated under a few subtitles, making the page cooperative and helpful. Moreover, some information regarding the popular locations in Al-Ain and they city itself are outdated, making the page even less credible. I will be adding some content regarding the newly renovated Al-Ain Zoo as well as sharing most if not all the necessary key points concerning its location and other helpful information.

I will begin my editing by adding a subtitle - Al-Ain Zoo. My next step is to introduce the topic in a specific order: Date and information of foundation, location of Al-Ain Zoo and Al-Ain Zoo contact information, importance of Al-Ain Zoo, information regarding Al-Ain Zoo (animals, plants, expansion plans). This step will feature additional information regarding each mentioned point.

The information I will be adding under the Al-Ain Zoo subtitle will be taken from several websites, two of which are credible.

The section I will be adding will feature a photo, which I will be taking from the Al-Ain Zoo website's gallery
