[edit]bounded on the west by Roncesvalles Avenue Although I understand what is trying to be said, this is sort of a geographical impossibility. Roncesvalles *ends* at Queen... hmm.... Krupo 06:24, Oct 3, 2004 (UTC)
"and former old dive hotels The Drake and The Gladstone being recently bought out and renovated to attract the arts community"
"on the east by Dufferin Street"
The Drake and the Gladstone are actually east of Dufferin St., making the whole issue of "Where is Parkdale?" that much more confusing. Most would classify those hotels as "West Queen West", but the character of Parkdale is changing, so I don't really have a suggestion here. Pyrotix 04:06, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
^ I'd allow it on the basis that neighbourhood boundaries are rough designations, and tend to overlap.
Is Camden Blues actually a Notable Person? Wikipedia isn't MySpace, and the number of local artists in Parkdale is too many to list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.245.220.223 (talk) 16:38, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Boundaries
[edit]The boundaries of the old Parkdale village still fit. I have indicated those in the article. Since the Parkdale Station was at Gladstone and Queen that intersection should be included in the boundaries of Parkdale, and that would include the Gladstone Hotel, but not the Drake. While most people who live along Roncesvalles consider this to be Roncesvalles Village, there is no exact division, it overlaps certainly. A proper map graphic is sorely needed. Since nobody indicated any reason as to why the article is written from a non-neutral perspective, I've removed the tag. If you feel that the article is using non-neutral language, please feel free to discuss. Or even better, fix it. Ivanvector (talk) 22:29, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Gentrification and recent change
[edit]I think there needs to be a bit more of a focus on the gentrification of the neighbourhood. This is happening fast, and will eventually threaten the new immigrants who won't be able to afford increased prices in the neighbourhood. You can already see the divide: go in to any of the hipster coffee shops and it's all the hipsters who have the means to drop 5$ on a latte, while the new immigrants flock to the dwindling budget coffee shops in the neighbourhood. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.196.142.209 (talk) 22:33, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- As a current resident of Parkdale, and being born and raised in Toronto, I feel there is obvious gentrification in the area. It may be worth while to add some notes on the topic (which I will do in the future). What is interesting about the gentrification of Parkdale is that it has been noted as municipally-managed gentrification and the increase in prices did/does not really have to do with those hipsters so much as the Tenant Protection Act imposed by the Ontario Conservatives in the late 90's. This act introduce Vacancy Decontrol--the elimination of rent control on vacant units. As for the "the divide," my parents are immigrants yet would gladly go to a hipster coffee shop for a proper americano. C. Granados-Ocon (talk) 02:49, 16 September 2011 (UTC)C. Granados-Ocon
Parkdale in Popular Media
[edit]It could be added that Metric wrote a song about Parkdale in their 2001 album Grow Up and Blow Away. Exor314 (talk) 17:44, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
For which claim in the statement about the Black Lungs song is the "citation needed"? That they recorded a song named "Stay Out of Parkdale"? That the song describes "various things wrong with the neighborhood"? Or does this go back to the statement that was in place when the citation was requested in April 2011, which claimed "Parkdale was brought to fame in 2010" by the song? Essenoh (talk) 00:59, 21 June 2014 (UTC) The statement has been removed by another user. Essenoh (talk) 01:41, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
