Cervical cancer/edits by 81.129.78.44 in June 2005
[edit]Having researched the assertion that this album was recorded while Amos was recovering from cervical cancer I have come to the conclusion that this is not the case. Amos has never asserted that she had cervical cancer, but instead that she had a pre-cancerous condition. She has never specified what it was, but it is widely believed to have been something like a cyst. Further, this condition did not surface for her until the late 1990's, not in 1993 when this album was being recorded. I am removing the information. Pacian 14:12, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Removal of copyrighted material
[edit]This website www.basicmusic.net/musicians.php?aid=3341 contains this copyrighted text: "The inspiration for the previous album had been the events in Amos's own life, but for her second album she drew inspiration elsewhere — from the work of Georgia O'Keeffe and Salvador Dalí, the literature of Alice Walker, and the Russian princess Anastasia Romanov. Musically, Amos drew from the style of classical composers she had studied during her childhood, and put more focus on her solo piano rather than band instrumentation." which I removed for that reason. And this material: "Thematically, Under the Pink explores the relationships between women, and the title alludes to both the colour pink normally associated with women as well as what goes on under the pink of the surface. The music, acoustic and intimate, reflects the internal concept.
The musical complexity drawn from her classical background is particularly evident in such tracks as "Icicle" and the sweeping, nine-and-a-half minute, "Yes, Anastasia".
Amos' voice and songwriting ability seem to have improved on this album, and the production is notably less band-oriented and 1980s-inspired than Little Earthquakes, her well-received 1992 debut album. " is entirely POV and/or original research -- whichever one it is, it's not attributed to a third-party source. If someone can cite a reference, please do return it. Major work needed
[edit]Sadly, this album's article is in serious need of work. I've done the following:
- Marked specific statements that are in need of a reference/citation
- Removed info on More Pink: The B-sides from the info box, which should reflect info on the standard album only, and placed it in the More Pink subsection of the article
- Re-organized some information to help with the clutter in the intro and overview sections
- Removed 'Peeping Tommi' as a b-side. It's not an Under the Pink b-side in the same way that 'Cooling' or 'Beulah Land' are not Boys for Pele b-sides.
I would work on this, but I'm devoted to polishing up the Boys for Pele article. There is a lot of interesting info on Under the Pink that could be included here, as well as a lot of formatting and citation work to be done. Hopefully someone will come along and take this article under their wing. --Pisceandreams (talk) 10:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
