I really enjoyed this article. Thought maybe it could include a list of current live music venues. Also, think something should be said about graffiti, which I think makes Deep Ellum Deep Ellum.

Requested move

[edit]

This was cut-and-paste moved to Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas, which although consistent with other Dallas neighborhoods, seems like unneccessary disambiguation. A check of google hits for "Deep Ellum" were all for the Dallas neighborhood (at least in first 200 hits). If it stays at the current location the histories should at least be fixed.

This is a bit muddled now, but how about people vote according to their agreement with the following statement: The article belongs at Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas instead of Deep Ellum.

Add *Support or *Oppose followed by an optional one-sentence explanation, then sign your vote with ~~~~
I don't see any consensus for the move, so I've merged the histories and the article is at Deep Ellum. Talrias (t | e | c) 14:02, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • As a reminder, Wikipedia has an official policy on Naming Conventions (WP:NC) which is summarized thus: "Generally, article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature." - I don't know what could be ambiguous about Deep Ellum. Consistency should probably take a back seat to simplicity of linking. For the same reason we don't have Harrison Ford (actor) even though it would be consistent with others that require disambiguation. Dystopos 21:05, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Typical Generic Wikipedia language

[edit]

Why was the section on the Good-Latimer tunnel changed from the specific time of it's destruction to the typical wikipedia generic language?

One of the most disappointing things about wikipedia is how often things are just stated in a generalized and unspecific way.

IE Spring 2007 instead of May 2007. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.235.180.177 (talk) 06:50, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I find one of the most disappointing things to be how poorly people understand the concept of the Neutral Point of View. Just in general. Eaglizard (talk) 00:24, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the external link for savethescene.org. The page is still up and we retain control over it, but we do not really use it. We are currently using myspace as our primary page, which is myspace.com/savethescenenow. We are an all volunteer organization that seeks to foster music, art and diversity in Deep Ellum. We meet every week, coordinate events, and even work on the political side a bit. Oh, and you wouldn't you know it, we phased out the name savethescene in favor for DEEP (Deep Ellum Enrichment Project). Currently the deepellumenrichmentproject.org redirects to our myspace page.

"Crime Recession" Expansion: Revitalization/ Construction

[edit]

Under "Crime recession" there is a mini paragraph discussing the 2007 plan to grow Deep Ellum. Should we expand and update on that? Instead of focusing on how no other city in DFW has emerged like this one, we could include how the construction and new buildings has added to its growth. Split parts of "Entertainment district" section into new article called "Trees Dallas" - Trees Dallas won the Dallas Best of Award 2012, has a capacity of 600, has hosted some of the best musicians in the world, and is published in several sources: [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Deep Ellum, Dallas/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

This article has a cohesive history section and in general covers the area pretty well. It still needs quite a bit of cleanup both visually in terms of layout and organization and in terms of content cohesiveness.. good article, though. It is nationally known and is thusly of high importance. drumguy8800 C T 04:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Work to Be Done

[edit]

In 'Talk' I read that improvements have been made in the article but examples of poor grammar, misused terms and historical accuracy abound.

More than a few of these sentences are riddled with inaccuracies, not to mention cringe worthy: 'After independence from the Mexican-American War, Texas became a part of the United States in 1845. Four years later, Dallas was founded after the Civil War. '...independence from the Mexican-American War'? Look at the dates for the founding of Dallas. The Civil War (American?) was quite a bit more than four years after Texas became part of the U.S. Basic historical knowledge or proofreading seem to be lacking.

Another example: what does this sentence have to do with the article? 'Even some theaters and entertainment areas were constructed for neighborhoods in the 1890s.' I've read it five times and I still don't know. The sentence is vague and barely connects to the surrounding paragraphs. RobotBoy66 (talk) 09:36, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
