Elm
[edit]You sure the elm's demise "dates to the early 1900s"? It still sprouted leaves regularly in the early 1970s... Grutness...wha? 23:38, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]I'm unconvinced by the explanation about the "thou" pronunciation being introduced from the USAF. When I lived in Croughton it was as often pronounced as in "thou" as it was as in "crow" by the villagers themselves - including by the older residents who had been living there since before the base was American-run. That suggests that both pronunciations had already been in use there before the base was American. And no, I didn't live on the base, I lived in what was then the post office, next to a church opposite the school - and I usually knew it as sounding like "thou". People in the village then said that people from the Blenheim end (towards Aynho) pronounced it one way, and people from the rest of Croughton pronounced it the other way.
