Notes
[edit]The article Recreation contained a link to active vacation, but I couldn't find anything about it on Wikipedia. Do we really not have anything yet? Can we say that adventure tourism is a form of active vacation?
I've noticed quite a bit lately that some people use the term Adventure Travel to refer to any travel to a foreign country to pursue traditional front-country sports such as kayaking and rock climbing. Sometimes, they even use it just to denote travel to less developed countries. Perhaps some mention of the "softening" of the term needs to be made? --Sarnacke 03:06, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Definition
[edit]I propose a different definition:
Adventure travel is a tourism, involving exploration or travel to risky, dangerous or uncertain areas.
"expect the unexpected" is unencyclopedic
Be on the lookout for a commercial shill post.
[edit]I just spotted the following in the Helium.com marketplace:
Assignment Guidelines: Great Adventures:
200-300 word Wikipedia entry. Expand the current section "Tour operators, travel agencies & retailer" for Wikipedia's Adventure Travel page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_travel. The article should provide short introductions to, and the opportunity for, internal links to tour operators ? specifically adventure travel companies ? with pages currently on Wikipedia.
The article should also include additional regions that promote themselves as adventure travel destinations, such as Peru, Ecuador, Patagonia, Alaska, Colorado and Australia.
VERY IMPORTANT: Do not upload the article to Wikipedia. The publisher will upload the selected article!

Removal of Tour operators, travel agencies & retailers
[edit]The section 'Tour operators, travel agencies & retailers' had a become a spam magnet, and appeared to have no real encylopedic value. It was in a prominent place in the article, and also appears to have been subject to commercial abuse (see above). Adventure travel is a widespread phenomenon and notability is a strong reason for exclusion (ie with the arguement that if you include one, you must include all). This section has been removed entirely for these reasons. Clovis Sangrail (talk) 22:32, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with the reasons for the removal. The content was a business directory, and not encyclopedic. The remaining sections better describe to the reader the types of Adventure travel that are available, without having the commercial link abuse problem. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 22:51, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Types of Adventure Travel: Misleading section
[edit]Whilst the introducing paragraphs suggest that there are indeed other types, the section on types of Adventure Travel seem to minimise they're importance and those most probably are more representative types of adventure travel. Many of the types of adventure travel mentioned are valid but I am sure some such as Ghetto, and Urban are going to be fringe elements only. It is the high adrenaline activities and independent travel to remote areas or at least regions less frequented by the mass tourism market that have more relevence to this section.
Add on for: Types of adventure travel
[edit]Hi guys, I would like to suggest to add two more topics to this article:
Or any section these two separate topics would fit in? Thanks! --huggi - never stop exploring (talk) 08:05, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Independent adventure travel
[edit]What is independent adventure travel vs "normal" adventure travel, as it is mentioned in the lead section, but also no clue later to resolve it. JSoos (talk) 18:52, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
