Differentiate between gameplay genre and story genre
[edit]There should be separate sections for a game's gameplay genre and story genre.
For example, the gameplay genre of the Mario & Luigi series is RPG, but the story genre is action comedy. Benpiano800 (talk) 04:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Though I do suppose this would be redundant with genres like action-adventure. Benpiano800 (talk) 04:30, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Video games are routinely not characterized by their narrative genre, outside of horror game which intermixes the narrative and gameplay genre. So we avoid trying to use narrative genres. Also, knowing the mess these tend to cause for films and other works, that also draws a lot of original research and excessive flooding of genre descriptors, so its probably better we have avoided that. - I agree. But I don't know that Wikipedia is the correct place to start improving games categorization, that there is such a place, or that prescription would be effective. Unknow0059 (talk) 02:56, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Release dates
[edit]Alongside release date, How about a new field for discontinued date? 92.16.43.192 (talk) 23:22, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Add Age Rating Field
[edit]ESRB rates games in the US & UK on self-reported data to help inform parents if a given game, its themes and contents are age-appropriate for their children. In Japan, it's CERO.
The infobox for tabletop games includes a field for Age Range.
Considering the existence of these regulatory bodies, why doesn't the template for video-games do the same, similar, or better? Unknow0059 (talk) 02:51, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Based on the last time this was discussed back in April, there are too many rating systems to make it reasonable. Primefac (talk) 11:17, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Are you implying the tabletop games infobox is unreasonable? Unknow0059 (talk) 02:49, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- I would say so, it acts more like a shopping aid than anything encyclopedic. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 02:59, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Add website parameter
[edit]Why is there no website parameter? I think there should be one. PhotographyEdits (talk) 01:55, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Read the FAQ at the top of the page (or at Template talk:Infobox video game/FAQ) which has a list of the various discussions where this was decided against. Primefac (talk) 12:43, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
