A game show contestant, otherwise non-notable. As far as I know, Wikipedia doesn't have articles on people who've won other types of game shows (EG Jeopardy, Password), why should we make an exception for reality shows? Simply outlasting a dozen other people seeking their 15 minutes of fame doesn't seem notable in my book, especially considering how many reality shows there are nowadays. Wikipedia is not paper, but come on, 100 years from now, is anyone going to care who won Big Brother 5 or Amazing Race 3, let alone who participated? And if info is to be kept, how about a single table for the show's winners, not breakout articles for each otherwise non-notable contestant. Niteowlneils 13:03, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Although I didn't created this article, I did create the link to it on Australian Idol, and I did clean up the vandal article that appeared in its place, so I feel sort of responsible for it. I'm not really a fan of the show. However a LOT of people are, and they are going to care who made it (don't forget, of the 10000+ who entered, only 120 or so made it to the next round, and now we are down to 12 of those - it's not like every person who auditioned is listed). From the first series about 4-5 of them are now household names in Australia (sad but true). Dan might be out this week, he might win it, who knows. Like you said, Wikipedia is not paper -- Chuq 13:30, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Delete: I would say redirect to the show, but this person is just 1:12 finalists. If the shows get final two mentions for every year, that's fine. Beyond that and we get into trivia and ephemera. Each person seems like the center of the celebrity universe for about a month. Geogre 13:58, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- In Australia, I have seen CDs or film clips for not just the winner of the first series, but 4 of the "losers" (runner-ups), and have also seen/heard of a couple of others in the media - this is almost a year after it finished. No, I don't like it, but it is what happened. -- Chuq 02:56, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. I was on the local Corky the Clown show once when I was 5. Do I get a page, too? Assuming the show deserves a page, a simple listing of past winners might be appropriate. Kbh3rd 15:55, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- If there were only 12 people on the Corky the Clown show per year, and a significant percentage of those had short-term careers in the public eye, then yes, you would get a page. Chuq 02:58, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Now we've moved from someone not just needing to be notable, but they need to be notable for multiple reasons? One reason for notability is enough. anthony (see warning) 15:59, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Well, there IS an article on Ken Jennings, but he's an exception. However, IF people win these American/Pop/Australian Idol shows, they DO become famous, but I don't think we need articles on every one of the finalists of every season. Delete. If he wins, signs a recording contract and becomes famous, we can re-create the article. RickK 17:38, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)
- If this is the only information on him in the entry, I vote an emphatic delete. If he's just a finalist, he should be in a nice little box on the actual show entry. If he ends up winning, he should get his own entry with much more than just "Winner of the Australian Idol competition." Spatch 17:48, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- This reason it is only a one line stub, is because the article was created by a vandal (see page history) and I just cleaned it up rather than send to speedy deletion (expecting that eventually he would have an article anyway). -- Chuq 02:56, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. They don't need to be notable for multiple reasons, they just need to be notable. This isn't. DJ Clayworth 18:10, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- The lister said he is "a game show contestant, otherwise non-notable." That certainly implies that he is notable for being a game show contestant. anthony (see warning) 18:48, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. He's simply not notable, though if he continues further on, he may well become so. I should've delinked half of these as soon as I saw them, as at present, none of the current ones are worthy of their own article, and about half of the final twelve from the first series (those who've since gone on and had their own recording career). - Strong keep. Folks, it is highly likely that in the next month a Final 12 album and single for the Australian Idol contestants will be released featuring the 12 contestants including Dan O'Connor will be released in Australia. Based on last years, both of these records will go platinum and feature in the top five of the charts if go to number one. Last year, the Australian Idol final was the most popular show on Australian television bar none. In the following year, seven Australian Idol contestants from last years series have had singles make the Australian top 40. Four of those contestants have gone to have number one songs on the Australian charts and two have had more than one song go to number one. Three of the contestants have had albums reach number one on the Australian album charts. In my view, people who appear on popular television shows are notable. People who appear on records that make the charts are notable. Dan O'Connor is already on a popular television program in an English speakinc country - Australia. He will also be appearing on a record that will chart in an English speaking country - Australia before the end of the year. Capitalistroadster 06:48, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Kind of off topic - I believe if there is a reasonable chance that someone may type in a person's name, searching for them, they should reasonably expect to end up at a page about that person, or a direct link to information about them. There is a girl in Australian Idol series 2 named Casey Donovan.. I wonder what people would expect to find at that page! -- Chuq 05:32, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- To be honest, out of the small number of people potentially searching WP for info on Australian Idol, I very much doubt that any of them would be searching for Dan specifically. In any case, it's quite a common name. Delete. Lacrimosus 09:18, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Valid topic for article name in relation to Australian Idol. Although it should be a redirect to parent article until a more substantial entry can be written. Davodd 16:19, Sep 4, 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Agree with the keepers.--Dittaeva 16:21, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Redirect to parent article, according to Davodd's reasoning. Andris 22:33, Sep 8, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete - do not redirect - Tεxτurε 00:16, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Ok, that image that was put up wasn't of good quality & didnt have the appropriate copyright tags, so in the meantime I'm taking down the image. I had no idea why the last image was deleted, but a better quality image with the appropriate copyright tags would be useful. --Arnzy (talk • contribs) 13:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
