Can we scale down this image by thumbnailing? This is awfully big for dialup people, no? Jwrosenzweig 23:16, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Um, its 5,000 bytes. Morwen 23:17, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)
Morwen, I'm a real computer dope. Is 5,000 bytes a lot? It sounds like a lot to me. Jwrosenzweig 23:20, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)
It is nothing. Because the image contains large amounts of solid colour, it can be easily compressed. Morwen 23:20, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)
It's small because it is a really simple image, and png works well for small images. Secretlondon 23:22, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining it to me. I just saw the size and thought "Whoa." But I'm accessing from a T1 line, so I couldn't tell if it came up quickly because I had great access, or because it wasn't a problem. I'll be quiet now. :) Jwrosenzweig 23:23, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Possible Flag Change

[edit]
Proposed flag of Bolivia

Evo Morales, who is currently ahead in exit polls, promised to change the flag of Bolivia if elected. --Descendall 01:32, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That would be an interesting one to watch, and it does indeed look as if he is winning the vote in the country, SqueakBox 01:54, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
According to some sources ([1] and [2], both in Spanish) this will be the proposed new flag. --B1mbo 18:34, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the image! I suppose this will happen with the new constitution to be adopted in 2007? —Nightstallion (?) 21:13, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Probably but not necessarily, because the flag law isn't in the Constitution; it's just a simple law. But, according to the sources, the proposal would be passed by the Bolivian Constitutional Assembly and not only by the Executive Power and then by the Congress, because Morales want to give legitimity to the flag as a symbol of the "new Bolivia". --B1mbo 01:45, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. The constitutional referendum will be in August '07, if I recall correctly, so the new flag should become law then (if the constitution is approved), right? —Nightstallion (?) 10:54, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if the constitutional assembly will aprove the idea. I heard that even in MAS there are people against the new flag and of course PODEMOS rejected the proposal. Also, always exists the possibility that nothing happens. --B1mbo 02:40, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we'll see. It's unconventional, but I like it. —Nightstallion (?) 16:55, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it will be changed, the sole idea found too many opposition, the most probable thing is that the Whipala will become a national symbol but the official flag will remain unchanged, or at least I hope so! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.114.105.5 (talkcontribs)

Well, we'll see. I hope it is adopted. ;)Nightstallion (?) 01:55, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there is some doubt about the function of the flag called naval ensign here. This is discussed on the respective Flags of the World page. Probably, the so-called naval ensign is only a ceremonial flag and not an ensign (i.e. used on ships and craft).--93.104.114.31 (talk) 15:18, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

State flag or civil flag?

[edit]

The preferable flag for Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela and Costa Rica is the state flag or the civil flag? --Davi Gamer 2017 (talk) 22:50, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Peru’s correct national flag is the civil one, but I’m not sure about Bolivia and Costa Rica. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.192.194.183 (talk) 18:27, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of the Patujú flower

[edit]

Does this flag have any official status? It seems to be a banner of protest by the then-acting president. – Kaihsu (talk) 18:43, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bandera Menor/Mayor .svg files and replacing them

[edit]

So, I was using Inkscape to view the old red-and-green Bolivian flags and noticed something weird about them. I couldn't select *anything* save for the flag itself. I went to see the shape's subcategories when i noticed there weren't any, and then noticed the shapes looked... pixelated. As it turns out they're not proper vector graphics, but instead just a flat .jpeg pasted on an .svg canvas. Who does that??? Like, what's the point of doing that anyway, considering you could've just uploaded the original .jpeg image instead. Wikipedia doesn't have some mandatory .svg requirement for flags as far as I know, so it just seems super bizarre.

Anyhow, main point is, with them being deletion candidates they have to be replaced, so I was wondering if I'd be able to simply trace over them in Inkscape or a similar tool. I'm not sure if Wikipedia allows that, if I have to attribute the authors and how etc. so I wanted to see if anyone knew the info before I took those steps. Why can't i get a cow (talk) 21:12, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Civil flag

[edit]

The main flag shown is the civil flag. Why is this? Is it more important in Bolivia than the state flag? As someone not from Bolivia, I'm no doubt ignorant, but in my experience the state flag is the one seen waved by Bolivians outside the country. 2A00:23C4:6B13:D801:99C4:9A7D:7493:EC12 (talk) 18:17, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We have an article State flag. I don't know about Bolivia, but state flags are often restricted to official government use or flown by naval vessels etc., and so can be considered specialized. AnonMoos (talk) 21:21, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
