From VfD:
The article title is misspelled. It's an orphan and isn't wikified. As far as I can see, it doesn't have anything in it that isn't in the correctly spelled article, Aquifer. --Aqua 02:56, Aug 17, 2004 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to Aquifer. Postdlf 03:11, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Simple misspellings get redirected. Merge as appropriate. -- Cyrius|✎ 06:38, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Redirect: Misspelling might be made by otthers. (Oh, no! Russ's paradox!). Geogre 13:18, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Redirect to aquifer. Nothing to merge. Andrewa 14:05, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Merge as appropriate and delete. The suggestion that we should have redirects because people cannot spell is ludicrous. Does this mean we are going to permit articles such as Geogre Warshington (sorry, Geogre, nothing personal;) ) to be maintained as a redirect? How about Britain and Linkin' Memorial. This =is= asking for a headache. If someone can't find an article on their first try, how about employing the Google approach: "Did you mean 'xxxx'?" Denni☯ 01:38, 2004 Aug 18 (UTC)
- Misspellings are one of the explicitly stated uses of redirects. -- Cyrius|✎ 02:50, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- To some degree, Denni, I agree with you: we can end up using redirects to duplicate our search logic, and on VfD we can be a little liberal. Back in the old days, I remember "full text searching has been disabled, please try Google" coming up rather more often than it does now. As Wikipedia gets better and better and stronger and stronger, redirects for misspellings will be less and less needed. I think it's up to us to figure out if we're dealing with an extremely common misspelling or just a nutty one. In this case, "acquifer" is pretty common, I'd say (and Geogres are a dime a dozen at the vacant lot). Geogre 12:35, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
