Valfarly chanced upon wikipedia and thought "that'll never work"... but after using it a few times, he eventually got sufficently annoyed by a typo to do something about it and on 15th March 2004 hit edit. From there it was a slippery slope to writing articles for things he found no-one else had written about and adding tidbits, factoids and other nuggets of information to previously covered topics. Finds himself correcting spelling and grammar far too often!
Discovering that pages need basic copyediting may surprise new visitors to Wikipedia. This is because the encyclopedia is a dynamic work in progress, published while it is being developed and updated in real time by people all over the world. Millions of the articles need simple improvements. You don't have to be an expert to edit Wikipedia. Just click the edit tab at the top of the page and start typing away!
Copyediting involves the "five Cs": making the article clear, correct, concise, comprehensible, and consistent. So, if you see something you can fix, click on the "edit" tab at the top of the page, and start typing in the edit window to fix it. Be bold. And, if there are any facts you know about the subject that are missing, then please, add them in!
Acer negundo, also known as the box elder, is a species of maple in the family Sapindaceae, native to North America. It is a fast-growing, short-lived tree with opposite, ash-like compound leaves. It is sometimes considered a weedy or invasive species, and has been naturalized throughout much of the world. It grows up to 10 to 25 metres (35 to 80 feet) tall, with a trunk diameter of 30 to 50 centimetres (12 to 20 inches). Male and female flowers appear on separate plants, with flowers on male plants generally appearing in clusters of four and flowers on female plants appearing as a raceme.
