Independence

The following text was added to the 1822 article (links inserted by me):

October 19 - In Parnaíba city; Simplício Dias da Silva, João Cândido de Deus e Silva, Domingos Dias declares the Independence of State of Piauí - in Brazil.

I'm confused what this means: Was Piauí not part of Brazil and joined Brazil on that day? If so, this should rather be mentioned here than on the 1822 page. Or did it declare its independence from Brazil on that day? If so, when did it rejoin? Also, who are the three people mentioned (red links)? Common Man 17:10, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
